Ceuta healthcare workers face collapse amid extreme demand

Healthcare professionals in Ceuta are facing an extreme crisis due to increased demand linked to the migratory situation. The General Council of Nursing (CGE) and the Ceuta Nursing College have warned that the system is on the verge of collapse, reporting daily assistance figures exceeding 200 interventions with peaks of up to 1,600. Nurses are working with unsustainable ratios of 14 to 16 patients per professional and shifts that extend up to four hours beyond scheduled hours.

Nursing unions and professional bodies are demanding that the government activate Level 2 of the Disaster Plan to mobilize extraordinary resources, reinforce staff, and ensure necessary supplies. Beyond the workload, professionals have reported physical and psychological exhaustion, as well as significant security concerns during home visits.

In addition to the nursing crisis, the Ceuta Medical College (COMCE) has expressed dissatisfaction at being excluded from high-level sanitary meetings intended to address the city's healthcare state. Meanwhile, the CSIF union has highlighted the essential role of support staff, including nursing technicians and security personnel, who are also facing extreme pressure during this period.
