Asante Kotoko appoints Eric Tinkler as head coach with league title mandate
South African coach Eric Tinkler has been appointed head coach of Ghana’s most successful football club, Asante Kotoko. Tinkler said the team must adopt proper planning, professionalism and a strong work ethic to restore the club’s former glory and compete for major honours.
Kotoko’s board chairman James Osei Brown gave Tinkler a clear mandate to win the 2026‑27 Ghana Premier League title and secure continental competition, noting the club has not lifted the league since the 2021‑22 season. Tinkler brings experience from guiding Orlando Pirates to a CAF Champions League final and SuperSport United to a CAF Confederation Cup final. Pre‑season preparations have begun as the new season is set to start in early September 2026.
