On 17 July 2026, Asante Kotoko confirmed South African CAF A-licensed coach Eric Tinkler as head coach. By 19 August, Tinkler outlined his ambitions to win trophies and guide the team back to the CAF Champions League, setting an initial target of a top-two finish. However, he highlighted significant hurdles, including “ongoing financial constraints, inadequate infrastructure, and squad indiscipline.” He noted the club is working to restore professionalism to the team environment. Kotoko’s season will open with an away match against Debibi United FC, followed by a home game versus Hearts of Lions.
