Eric Tinkler named head coach of Ghana's Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko announced that South African former national team captain Eric Tinkler has been appointed head coach with immediate effect on 17 July 2026. Tinkler holds a CAF A Licence and brings over three decades of experience as both player and coach, having led clubs such as Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Cape Town City and Bidvest Wits. He guided Orlando Pirates to the CAF Champions League final and SuperSport United to the CAF Confederation Cup final, and won several domestic cup titles in South Africa. As a player, Tinkler earned 48 caps for South Africa, captained the side at the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations, played at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and was part of the 1996 AFCON‑winning squad.

At Kotoko, he will work alongside Director of Football Stanley Menzo Purl, with club chairman James Osei Brown welcoming his “proven winning pedigree”. The club aims to strengthen its technical structure and compete for domestic honours and continental trophies in the 2026/27 season.
