Ascoli Bishop Confirms Antifascist Pasta Event After Church Dispute
Bishop Gianpiero Palmieri, the bishop of Ascoli Piceno, announced that the "Pastasciutta antifascista" event will proceed on 26 July, but it will be held in the parish of San Marcello instead of the church of the Frati. The collective Caciara, together with the ANPI provincial committee and the bakery L’Assalto ai Forni, had originally secured the Frati church for the event, which was framed as a political‑cultural gathering celebrating antifascist values.
The venue permission was later withdrawn amid complaints from some parishioners who objected to the word “antifascist” on the flyer. The bishop described the controversy as a “misunderstanding” and emphasized that “antifascismo, libertà e democrazia sono valori costituzionali”. He said there was no revocation of the event, only a relocation. The organizers thanked supporters for their solidarity and welcomed the bishop’s invitation to attend, stating the event will go ahead regardless of the change of location.
