Asebu Chief questions 24-hour market plan for agricultural district

Nana Okatakyi Prof. Amanfi VII, the Chief of the Asebu Traditional Area, has expressed skepticism regarding the government’s proposed 24-hour market policy in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District.

While supporting the principle of a 24-hour economy, the chief argued that the district’s predominantly agricultural nature makes late-night trading impractical. He noted that the local economy is driven by the production of crops such as maize, cassava, and oranges, rather than activities that would benefit from midnight commerce.

Instead of establishing new 24-hour markets, the chief suggested that the government should prioritize the rehabilitation of existing markets to better serve the developmental needs of the rural community.
