ASELSAN and Türk Telekom advance domestic smartphone project

ASELSAN and Türk Telekom are advancing a project to develop a domestic Turkish smartphone, with a target release date in the first half of 2027. The project involves a multi-stage roadmap, with each phase expected to take approximately one year.

In the initial phase, the devices will utilize the Android operating system. However, the long-term goal is to transition to a domestic operating system and indigenous chip technology. The product lineup is planned to span three market segments: premium, high-end, and mid-range.

Regarding branding, five potential names have been prepared to be presented to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who will make the final decision on the brand name.

There are differing reports regarding the manufacturing location. While some statements suggest a production facility in Istanbul for mass production, Türk Telekom CEO Ebubekir Şahin has indicated that production and testing processes are currently ongoing in Malatya. ASELSAN is tasked with hardware and production processes, while Türk Telekom will manage software, content, marketing, and distribution.
