Aselsan and Türk Telekom to produce domestic smartphone in Malatya

Aselsan and Türk Telekom have accelerated the development of a domestic smartphone project, with production slated to take place in Malatya. The project, coordinated by TTT İnovasyon, aims to reduce Turkey's dependence on foreign communication technologies.

Aselsan will manage hardware engineering and manufacturing, while Türk Telekom will handle software, marketing, and distribution. The product lineup is expected to include three distinct models: a premium version, an upper-segment model, and a mid-range model. One specific model is being designed for public employees with encrypted communication features, and all models are planned to include satellite connectivity to ensure communication during natural disasters.

The project follows a three-phase technological roadmap. Initially, the devices will run on the Android operating system. In the second year, the companies aim to transition to a domestic operating system, followed by the integration of domestic chip technology in the third year.

Sales are targeted for the first half of 2027. The final brand name for the device will be selected from five proposals submitted to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
