ASEP announces major Greek public sector recruitment and leadership reforms

The Greek Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection (ASEP) is managing several major recruitment and reform initiatives within the public sector.

A new bill from the Ministry of Interior, currently under public consultation, proposes a fundamental shift in how department heads are selected. Participation in an electronic ASEP competitive examination will become the sole requirement for approximately 30,000 leadership positions. The plan includes the creation of a digital Register of Candidate Department Heads. For the initial implementation, candidates will require six years of public service, though the general requirement for future applicants is three years. The first call for these examinations is expected in 2027.

Simultaneously, ASEP is processing various large-scale recruitment drives. This includes 1,866 permanent and contract positions specifically for persons with disabilities (PWD) across various educational categories. Another major announcement involves 3,265 permanent positions for employees with compulsory education (YE) across ministries, municipalities, and hospitals.

Furthermore, ASEP is finalizing results for 3,903 positions across four different announcements. These include 510 positions for the Ministry of Health, 1,696 positions for TE and DE categories within the Ministry of Health, and 43 permanent positions for the Civil Aviation Authority.
