Asheville, North Carolina shooting kills two, injures seven

A mass shooting occurred on July 19 on Biltmore Avenue in downtown Asheville, North Carolina, leaving two people dead and seven wounded. Police have identified several suspects and persons of interest, recovered the vehicle used in the attack, and seized evidence including a modified firearm with a homemade "Glock switch." Mayor Esther Manheimer used the tragedy to criticize recent changes to North Carolina gun laws, citing the veto of Senate Bill 50, which would have lowered the age for permitless concealed carry. She argued that relaxed state policies limit local governments' ability to address gun violence.
