Global fresh produce exporters target growing Asian markets

Global fresh produce exporters are increasingly prioritizing Asian markets to diversify away from traditional European destinations. At the Asia Fruit Logistica event, industry leaders highlighted a strategic shift toward high-growth regions including China, India, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

Chilean exporters are working to expand beyond China, which currently accounts for 87% of their Asian shipments, by leveraging new phytosanitary protocols in Southeast Asia. Similarly, Brazilian producers are adopting a premium air-freight strategy to target specific commercial windows in Asia, focusing on high-quality fruit to offset logistical costs.

Economic outlooks suggest that while China’s growth engine is shifting toward high-tech sectors like AI and electric vehicles, demand for high-quality, counter-seasonal agricultural imports is expected to remain strong. Meanwhile, India is emerging as a significant trade opportunity due to ongoing infrastructure and logistics upgrades. European and Latin American suppliers continue to report growing interest in Asian markets for products such as apples, pears, and blueberries.
