Asia-Pacific Media Forum opens in Shenzhen to foster regional cooperation

The Asia-Pacific Media Forum opened in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, bringing together over 400 representatives from 42 countries, international organizations, and UN agencies. The forum, themed ‘Building a Path to Shared Prosperity for the Asia-Pacific Community: Media Consensus and Action’, serves as a precursor to the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting to be held in China in 2026.

Key outcomes included the establishment of the Asia-Pacific Media Partnership Organizing Committee and the release of the ‘Shenzhen Consensus’. Participants committed to promoting regional connectivity, stabilizing supply chains, and discussing digital, intelligent, and green transformations. Discussions also addressed the role of artificial intelligence in media, with editors suggesting AI can assist with routine tasks rather than replacing human journalists.

In the energy sector, China Southern Power Grid highlighted its role in regional interconnection, noting the construction of 17 high-voltage power channels with Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar. The company emphasized its efforts in building a ‘Power Bay Area’ and promoting clean energy through cross-border cooperation.
