Asian American lung cancer screening awareness initiative

A quality improvement initiative in Northern California has evaluated the effectiveness of virtual, physician-led community outreach in increasing lung cancer screening (LCS) awareness among Asian Americans.

Data collected from 267 participants showed that while outreach efforts improved knowledge, significant gaps remain. Before the sessions, only 20% of participants reported knowledge of eligibility criteria; following the sessions, this rose to 42%. However, 58% of participants still expressed uncertainty regarding the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) eligibility criteria.

The study highlights a persistent need for targeted, continuous education to address misconceptions and improve screening rates within this population.
