Asian Development Bank funds $57 million rooftop solar expansion in Sri Lanka
The Asian Development Bank has pledged US $57 million to accelerate the rollout of rooftop solar photovoltaic systems across Sri Lanka. The financing will support the installation of solar panels on residential and commercial rooftops, helping to lower electricity bills, reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and improve energy security. The initiative aligns with the country's target to increase the share of renewable energy in its power mix and is expected to create jobs in solar installation and maintenance while cutting carbon emissions.
Implementation will focus on streamlining approvals, grid‑connection procedures and financing mechanisms to enable eligible households and businesses to adopt the technology quickly.
