ASL 1 Abruzzo hit by 2027 diagnostic wait times, unsafe hospital heat

The Uil FP union for healthcare workers in Abruzzo has warned that patients at ASL 1 hospitals in Sulmona, Avezzano and L'Aquila face diagnostic waiting periods extending to April or July 2027 for abdominal ultrasounds, with similar delays for other imaging such as ecocolordoppler, MRI and CT scans. The union’s provincial coordinator Claudio Incorvati, along with Florindo De Angelis and Simone Anzuini, criticised the health authority for not increasing staff, not using additional activities, and not purchasing private slots, calling the situation “absolutely unacceptable for sick, elderly and fragile people”.

Nursind, another workers’ association in the province of L'Aquila, has raised alarm over high indoor temperatures and inefficient air‑conditioning in ASL 1 hospitals and district facilities. The group says the heat endangers patient wellbeing and staff safety, breaching occupational‑health regulations such as D. Lgs. 81/2008. Both unions are demanding immediate corrective measures to protect patients and health‑care workers.
