ASP di Enna accelerates childhood vaccinations following regional alert

The Provincial Health Authority (ASP) of Enna has intensified its vaccination campaign for children aged 0 to 6 following an urgent directive from the Sicilian Region. This move comes in response to a regional alarm triggered by the death of a four-year-old child in Palermo from diphtheria, a disease not seen in the area since 1991.

To ensure public health protection, the ASP is working to recover children who have not completed their immunization cycles. While 2023 data shows relatively high coverage rates—93.79% for the hexavalent vaccine and 95.29% for the MPRV vaccine—the goal is to consistently exceed the 95% threshold recommended by the World Health Organization.

Vaccinations are being made more accessible through 16 centers distributed across Enna, Agira, Piazza Armerina, and Nicosia. These centers allow for administration without prior appointment. Additionally, healthcare workers and pediatricians are engaging in direct outreach to contact families with incomplete vaccination records.
