Assam announces 55,000 crore rupee infrastructure plan

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a major infrastructure initiative under the ‘Assam Budget 2026’. The state government plans to invest over 55,000 crore rupees in projects focused on enhancing connectivity through the construction of highways, bridges, and tunnels across the state.

These projects aim to reduce travel distances, accelerate economic growth, and support the ‘Developed Assam’ vision. By strengthening road networks, the government expects to improve movement between urban centers, rural areas, and emerging economic zones, while also enhancing Assam's role as a gateway to the Northeast region.
