Assam Chief Minister launches innovation and child protection initiatives
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced several new initiatives focused on technological innovation and child welfare in the state.
To foster economic growth, the Chief Minister called for increased collaboration between academia, industry, and startups. He inaugurated the MC² + Ignite outreach programme at IIT Guwahati’s Technology Incubation Centre and opened a new co-working space and innovation node at the NRL Centre in Guwahati. These facilities aim to support deep tech and energy transition solutions, providing infrastructure and connections to public-sector enterprises.
In the realm of social policy, the state government has notified the State Child Protection Policy and Juvenile Justice Rules, 2026. These measures include mandatory screening for child safeguarding officers and staff to address regulatory gaps. The government has also streamlined the operations of Child Welfare Committees and Juvenile Justice Boards, while institutionalizing individual care plans and home audits to improve the monitoring and safety of children.
