Assam court sentences three traffickers to 15 years in methamphetamine case
A special NDPS court in Assam's Kamrup (Metro) district has sentenced three drug traffickers to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment following a 2020 methamphetamine seizure. The convicts, identified as Shakil Khan and Md Yahiya Khan from Manipur and Mithilesh Kumar from Bihar, were also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 2 lakh each.
The case originated on October 14, 2020, when the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Guwahati Zonal Unit seized 2.146 kg of methamphetamine tablets near Rehaman Hospital Private Limited on VIP Road in the Khanapara area of Guwahati. Following an investigation, the NCB filed a complaint in April 2021.
The court found the individuals guilty under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. If the fines are not paid, each convict will face an additional year of imprisonment.
