Assam floods: Death toll reaches 103 as situation shows signs of improvement

The flood situation in Assam has shown signs of improvement, with the number of affected residents decreasing to between 77,000 and 87,000 people across four districts: Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, and Sivasagar. Despite the overall decline in affected persons, the death toll has risen to 103 following recent fatalities in Sivasagar and Karbi Anglong.

Golaghat remains the most heavily impacted district. The floods have submerged hundreds of villages and caused significant damage to over 10,000 hectares of cropland. Infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and embankments, has also been compromised. Additionally, tens of thousands of domestic animals and poultry have been affected by the rising waters.

Relief operations are ongoing, with authorities managing approximately 70 to 79 relief camps and distribution centers. These facilities are providing essential supplies such as rice, dal, salt, and mustard oil to thousands of displaced individuals. While the situation is stabilizing, the Dhansiri River continues to flow above the danger level at Numaligarh.
