Assam Floods Disrupt NH-27 Traffic, Prompt Rs 150 crore Relief Funding

Heavy monsoon rains on July 18 caused flash flooding in Jorabat, a suburb of Guwahati, inundating stretches of National Highway‑27. The sudden rise in water rendered the road virtually unmotorable, stranding dozens of vehicles and delaying ambulances, prompting the Guwahati Traffic Police to issue diversion advisories for light motor vehicles and recommend alternate routes.

Local residents described the flooding as a recurring problem, with one citing the need to address its root causes. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a Rs 150 crore allocation to mitigate the flash floods, sparking cautious optimism among commuters and officials.
