Assam flood victims to receive free replacement textbooks
Heavy monsoon rains have caused severe flooding across several districts of Assam, displacing thousands of residents and resulting in at least 62 deaths. The floodwaters submerged homes and schools, prompting images of children drying mud‑soaked textbooks on roads to go viral.
In response, the Assam state government announced that it will provide free replacement textbooks to all students whose study materials were damaged. Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu directed the Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation to prepare and dispatch the textbooks as soon as schools reopen, beginning with the heavily affected districts of Charaideo and Sivasagar. The measure aims to prevent educational disruption for flood‑hit pupils and underscores the government's commitment to continuing schooling amid the disaster.
