Assam government allocates Rs 100 crore for Guwahati Science City
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced an additional allocation of Rs 100 crore to expand the infrastructure and visitor facilities at the Guwahati Science City in Sonapur. The funding will support the development of a digital panorama, a convention centre, a musical fountain, and improved parking infrastructure. The project, which is being jointly implemented by the Ministry of Culture and the Assam Department of Science and Technology, is expected to be fully completed by March 2027.
To improve public accessibility, the Chief Minister has requested the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) to evaluate the introduction of a dedicated bus service connecting Guwahati to the Science City.
Additionally, Sarma inspected the progress at Zubeen Khetra in Komarkuchi, the proposed memorial site for singer Zubeen Garg. He directed authorities to complete the site's boundary wall by October or November, which will allow for the subsequent construction of an open-air theatre and a museum.
