Assam Government Executes Major Police Reshuffle, Reassigning Over 18 Senior Officers

The Assam Government ordered a sweeping reshuffle of its police leadership, transferring and posting more than 18 senior officers across the state. The Home (A) Department issued the notification on August 7, appointing IPS officer Partha Protim Das as Superintendent of Police (SP) for Cachar, where he previously served as Senior Superintendent. He replaces APS officer Sanjib Kumar Saikia, who has been moved to command the 20th Assam Police Battalion in Dhubri.

Other notable transfers include Sarmistha Barua, APS, moving to Senior Superintendent of Police in Darrang; Madhurima Das, APS, becoming Deputy Commissioner (Admin) of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate; Prakash Sonowal shifting to SSP of Dhemaji; and several officers being reassigned to cyber‑crime, CID training, and commandant roles. The reshuffle affects officers at the ranks of SSP, AIG, DIG, and other senior positions, with changes taking effect as officers assume charge of their new assignments.
