Assam Launches e‑Zero FIR System to Accelerate Cyber Fraud Action

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on June 23 that Assam is rolling out the "e‑Zero FIR" initiative, an automated mechanism that converts cyber‑financial crime complaints lodged through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) or the 1930 cyber helpline into First Information Reports. The system applies to complaints involving amounts above Rs 10 lakh, creating jurisdiction‑free zero FIRs that enable immediate police registration and investigation.

The launch aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s "Cyber Secure Bharat" vision and credits Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Assam Police for facilitating the rollout. Officials expect faster police action and greater recovery of defrauded funds, strengthening the state’s response to the rising trend of online financial fraud.
