Assam Special Task Force seizes heroin and arrests three traffickers
The Assam Special Task Force (STF) apprehended three drug traffickers and seized 397 grams of suspected heroin during an operation in Guwahati. Acting on intelligence regarding narcotic transportation, the STF intercepted a vehicle at Sonkochi Path in the Beharbari area during the night of August 27-28, 2026.
Officers recovered 37 soap cases containing the suspected heroin from two bags inside the vehicle. The three individuals arrested were identified as Kiron Singha of Cachar, Assam; S Nengpi Vaiphei of Imphal East, Manipur; and Ngaineichong of Churachandpur, Manipur. Authorities also seized Rs 21,000 in cash, mobile handsets, SIM cards, and the vehicle used in the transport.
In a separate operation, the STF and Hailakandi District Police arrested Fazal Islam Barbhuiyan, an alleged operative of the Pakistan-based Shahzad Bhatti Network (SBN). This arrest brings the total number of individuals apprehended in connection with the SBN investigation to four.
