Indian narcotics enforcement and trafficking crackdowns

Overview

Indian law enforcement agencies have conducted multiple operations targeting drug trafficking networks through both financial crackdowns and direct narcotics seizures.

In early August, police in Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh focused on dismantling the financial infrastructure of traffickers. In Shimla, authorities froze assets valued at approximately Rs 2.09 crore following the arrest of an alleged heroin network operator. In Leh, district police seized movable property from a habitual offender under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

By mid-August, a joint operation involving the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police resulted in the seizure of 868 grams of heroin in the Saihaul district. The drugs, hidden in a modified compartment of a truck, had an estimated international market value of approximately 6.51 crore rupees. Two individuals were arrested during the interception, and investigations are ongoing to identify the shipment’s origin and destination.
