Assam State Jamiat announces ₹2.25 crore flood relief package

Mustaq Anfar, president of the Assam State Jamiat and chief patron of the Anfar Foundation, has announced a ₹2.25 crore relief package for 2,400 economically vulnerable families in Upper Assam. The assistance aims to help families rebuild homes destroyed by devastating floods that have impacted the region since July 19.

The flooding of the Dikhow River has caused widespread damage across Sivasagar, Nazira, Charaideo, and Jorhat, resulting in the loss of homes, food stocks, and livelihoods. Of the total commitment, Maulana Syed Arshad Madani, the Jamiat's national president, will contribute ₹1 crore, while the Assam State Jamiat and Anfar Foundation will provide the remaining ₹1.25 crore.

Individual assistance amounts will be determined following field-level assessments of damage and specific family circumstances. The organizations have already distributed approximately ₹30 lakh in food and essential supplies since late July. Additionally, educational assistance programs have been initiated to provide materials to flood-affected schoolchildren in the Nazira area.
