ASST Melegnano-Martesana expands cancer care with new endoscopy tools and free lung‑screening programme

The ASST Melegnano‑Martesana health authority has equipped the Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy unit at the Melzo hospital with new high‑technology endoscopic devices, including Pentax endoscopy columns and Erbe VIO 3 electrosurgical units. The upgraded suite enabled its first advanced procedures, removing a superficial gastric neoplasm and a non‑polypoid rectal lesion, broadening local capacity for minimally invasive treatment of early digestive‑tract cancers.

In parallel, the authority launched a free lung‑cancer screening campaign for residents of the Melegnano‑Martesana area, targeting individuals aged 60‑65 who are current or former smokers. The programme offers low‑dose chest CT scans at four sites – Vizzolo Predabissi, Melzo, Cernusco sul Naviglio and Vaprio d’Adda – and requires voluntary registration via a dedicated email address. Both initiatives aim to improve early cancer detection and reduce the need for more invasive interventions.
