Brightline reaches restructuring deal to secure $490M in new capital
Brightline, the private high-speed rail operator in Florida, has entered a restructuring agreement to address debt following Chapter 11 filings by certain Brightline Florida entities. The deal is expected to provide the company with $490 million in new capital, consisting of $350 million in new junior debt and $140 million in additional senior debt.
Assured Guaranty has committed to providing up to $248 million in financing as part of this restructuring. Additionally, stakeholders including Assured Guaranty have agreed to provide $258 million in post-petition funding during the bankruptcy process. While certain entities have filed for protection, Brightline Trains Florida LLC—the operator of the Miami-to-Orlando service—has not filed for Chapter 11, and operations are expected to continue without interruption.
Brightline reported that ridership grew 14% and revenue increased 17% year-to-date through August. The restructuring aims to reduce the company's debt load, which was pressured by lower-than-expected passenger demand and high infrastructure costs.
