Aristophanes' Lysistrata Returns to Greece's Ancient Theatre of Dion

The classical comedy Lysistrata by Aristophanes was staged on 25 July 2026 at the Ancient Theatre of Dion in Greece as part of the 55th Olympus Festival 2026. The production, presented by the Greek National Theatre (KTHVE), was translated by Konstantinos Buras and directed by artistic director Astérios Peltekis. It featured a large ensemble, including singer Korina Legaki, musician Vaias Prapas and actress Elisabeth Konstantinidou in the title role.

After a sold‑out premiere in Thessaloniki’s Forest Theatre, the show toured Italy and Cyprus before the Dion performance. A second performance is scheduled for 31 July 2026 at the Ancient Theatre of Dovodion during the 10th Dovodion Festival, continuing the summer tour. The staging emphasizes the play’s enduring themes of collective female action, peace, equality and dialogue, using humor and satire to comment on contemporary social issues.
