AstraZeneca nasal spray flu vaccine launched in Vietnam

The VNVC Vaccination System has introduced AstraZeneca’s needle-free nasal spray flu vaccine in Vietnam. Designed for children and adolescents aged 2 to under 18, the live attenuated influenza vaccine is administered directly into the nasal mucosa rather than through intramuscular injection.

According to medical experts at VNVC, the vaccine provides a “three-layer immunity” response, including mucosal immunity at the entry point of the virus, systemic immunity through antibody production, and cellular immunity. The vaccine targets three influenza virus strains: A/H1N1, A/H3N2, and B/Victoria.

The nasal spray technology has been utilized in 34 countries and territories, with over 200 million doses distributed globally. The rollout aims to provide a less stressful vaccination experience for children who experience needle phobia and to combat the spread of respiratory illnesses in schools and nurseries.
