AstraZeneca reports 30% reduction in COPD exacerbations with tozorakimab

AstraZeneca has announced positive results from its Phase III Oberon and Titania clinical trials for tozorakimab, a novel biologic treatment for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The findings, presented at the European Respiratory Society congress in Barcelona, indicate that the drug reduces moderate to severe exacerbations by approximately 30% compared to a placebo.

Notably, the efficacy of tozorakimab appears to extend to patients regardless of their blood eosinophil levels, a first for COPD treatments. Data showed a reduction in exacerbations exceeding 40% for patients with eosinophil counts of 300 or higher, and reductions between 20% and 30% for those with lower counts. The studies included a diverse patient population, including current and former smokers across various stages of lung function impairment who were already receiving standard inhalatory therapy.
