Brazil weather: El Niño to drive heavy rain and heat in September
Brazil is expected to experience increased rainfall and temperature fluctuations throughout September due to the intensification of the El Niño phenomenon. Meteorological models suggest that rainfall will be more widespread and intense than in previous months, particularly in the South, Southeast, and parts of the Center-West and Northeast regions.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), there is a 93% probability that El Niño will reach very strong intensity during the September-November quarter. This phenomenon is projected to cause global climatic alterations lasting until the autumn of 2027.
In Santa Catarina, the Civil Defense has warned that the combination of seasonal spring patterns and El Niño makes this a period of high attention for severe storms and heavy precipitation. While temperatures are expected to rise above 30°C in many areas, cold fronts and the risk of frost remain possible in the higher elevations of the southern states.
