Asturias government vows to keep Indra factory in Barros
The opposition People's Party (PP) leader in Asturias, Álvaro Queipo, accused regional President Adrián Barbón of failing to prevent defence contractor Indra from relocating its armored‑vehicle plant to Galicia. Queipo said the project was “very important for Asturias and the mining basins” and criticised the regional government for a €6 million loan that he called a “grant without explanation.”
Barbón responded, insisting the Barros (Langreo) facility will remain in Asturias. He pledged to use all legal instruments to defend the operation, stating, “A Galicia no se lleva nada. Lo que va a Barros, va a Barros.” He also said the plan is part of a national strategy to expand defence industry sites across multiple autonomous communities.
The dispute centers on whether the investment will stay in Asturias or be transferred to Galicia, with both sides citing strategic, economic and political considerations.
