Indra expands Spain defence vehicle production

Entities: Indra · Gerardo Álvarez Courel · As Pontes · Silvia Cao · Indra Land Vehicles

Overview

Following the July 6 inauguration of the renovated Talleres del Conde in La Felguera, the Asturian government reaffirmed its intention to retain the planned second armoured‑vehicle facility at the Barros workshop in Langreo. After negotiations stalled, Indra abandoned the Barros acquisition and redirected the project to As Pontes, Galicia. In late July 2026 the group confirmed a €18 million investment to build a 15,000 m² factory on more than 50,000 m² of land, creating 70‑120 direct high‑skill jobs and additional indirect positions. The plant will integrate amphibious combat vehicles, bridge‑laying machines and wheeled artillery, feature its own test track and embed advanced digitalisation, automation and AI, raising annual output to about 500 vehicles and expanding Indra’s land‑vehicle floor space to roughly 40,000 m² (potentially 55,000 m² with a third site). CEO Josep María Recasens described it as a new‑generation, Europe‑competitive hub. By August 2026 Indra announced it is scouting locations for a third armored‑vehicle factory, with León’s provincial authorities proposing sites such as the Bierzo Alto park and the Bembibre‑El Bayo area. The company has not excluded other options, including a possible purchase of the Duro Felguera workshop in Langreo.
