Asunción and San Pedro launch waste recycling and collection initiatives
The Municipality of Asunción has activated over 50 differentiated collection points, known as ecopoints, with plans to expand the network to 100. Managed by the General Directorate of Environmental Management, these sites are designed for the separation of plastic, paper, cardboard, and glass. The initiative aims to promote environmental education and the circular economy while supporting base recyclers by preventing reusable materials from mixing with common waste.
In San Pedro, the municipality has launched its first municipal battery collection campaign. Conducted in partnership with the Pharmaceutical Association and the Center of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, the program provides designated containers for used batteries at municipal offices, health centers, pharmacies, and various local institutions to ensure responsible disposal and prevent hazardous waste from entering common trash streams.
