Asunción Mayor delivers corruption report on Road Department intervention
Asunción Mayor Luis Bello has submitted a final report to the Public Ministry following an intervention of the city’s Road Department (Dirección de Vialidad) to investigate corruption and resource mismanagement.
The investigation, prompted by allegations of a parallel collection scheme, revealed significant irregularities. Findings include the disappearance of at least 74 tons of asphalt produced by the plant and the use of municipal resources to pave private property belonging to the firm Condor. Additionally, auditors discovered 54 inactive security cameras, a lack of GPS tracking on trucks, and fuel usage discrepancies exceeding 1,000 liters.
In response to these findings, the municipality has implemented corrective measures, such as installing locks on fuel tanks, unifying loading criteria, and updating procedural manuals. Four municipal officials and one citizen have already been charged with appropriation by the Economic Crimes Unit.
