Asunción municipal candidates present election platforms
Candidates for the upcoming municipal elections in Asunción, Paraguay, have presented their platforms and addressed key community issues.
Camilo Pérez, the mayoral candidate for the Asociación Nacional Republicana (ANR), held a meeting to urge women to lead the drive for political change in the capital. Pérez emphasized his commitment to family-oriented urban improvements, stating he aims to make public spaces like plazas safe and enjoyable for families again through infrastructure development and collaborative work with council candidates.
Meanwhile, council candidate Enrique Wagener, representing Lista 1, Opción 22, introduced the “ASU RECICLA y JUGA LIMPIO” program. The proposal focuses on urban waste management through a municipal ordinance that incentivizes recycling. Key elements of the plan include installing PET container compactors with reward systems, establishing “Green Points” for paper, plastic, and aluminum, and implementing environmental education programs in schools and markets. Wagener also proposed integrating urban recyclers more formally into the system to improve their working conditions.
