Asunción police arrest suspects in attempted murder and organized crime cases

Authorities in Asunción, Paraguay, have conducted two significant law enforcement operations involving violent crime and organized crime.

In the Barrio Obrero neighborhood, police raided a residence following an investigation into an attempted murder that occurred on August 3. The operation led to the arrest of Walter Gerardo Olmedo. During the raid, officers seized two firearms—a 9mm pistol and a .38 caliber revolver—as well as a Kia Sportage vehicle believed to have been used in the attack against Celso Ruiz Díaz. Narcotics were also discovered during the search and have been handed over to the Public Ministry.

In a separate operation, Interpol detained Shirley Natalia Cubilla Colman in the Sajonia neighborhood. The arrest was carried out in response to an extradition request from the specialized court against organized crime. Cubilla Colman is accused of criminal association, public intimidation, aggravated minor injuries, possession of explosives or toxic substances, and aggravated threats involving firearms. She faces a potential sentence of up to 35 years.
