Asyut Governor Orders Intensive Food‑Supply Inspections, Hundreds of Violations Cited

Governor Mohamed Alwan of Egypt’s Asyut province announced a wave of food‑supply and price‑control inspections across the governorate. Over the past week, authorities issued 808 citations, including 692 against municipal bakeries and 116 targeting markets and other subsidized‑goods outlets. The raids seized spoiled meat, rotten fish, under‑weight rice, illegal oil bottles, contaminated dairy, unregistered pesticides and other contraband, and closed several illegal fuel depots and stores.

In a separate 24‑hour sweep, inspectors recorded 337 additional violations at bakeries, markets and supply points, noting issues such as under‑weight products, missing nutritional labels, improper handling of subsidized flour, and unsanitary conditions. The operations are carried out under directives from President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi to tighten market supervision, protect consumers, and ensure that subsidized food reaches eligible citizens.

The governor stressed that legal action will continue against anyone who compromises food safety or manipulates the subsidy system, reaffirming daily monitoring to preserve public health and market integrity in Asyut.
