Çatalca standoff ends as suspect surrenders after four days
A four-day standoff in the Çatalca district of Istanbul has concluded after a man, identified as İrfan A., surrendered to gendarmerie forces. The incident began on August 13 in the Yalıköy neighborhood following a dispute between the suspect and his family. During the argument, the suspect's father reportedly fell ill, prompting a call for medical assistance.
Following the dispute, İrfan A. locked himself inside his home. When gendarmerie teams arrived, the suspect allegedly opened fire on the officers, leading to increased security measures and the cordoning off of the surrounding area to protect citizens.
After approximately four days of continuous negotiation and persuasion efforts by the gendarmerie, the suspect emerged in his garden on the morning of August 16 and surrendered without further incident. He was taken into custody, underwent a medical check at a hospital, and was subsequently transferred to a police station for processing as investigations continue.
