France advances winter driving safety and launches rural carpooling service

In 2025 France introduced stricter winter‑driving regulations, requiring winter tires or chains in mountainous zones and recommending reduced speeds and increased stopping distances on snow‑covered roads. Major tyre manufacturers such as Michelin, Bridgestone and Pirelli are highlighted for their winter‑tread technology, and the use of fog lights and proper vehicle spacing are emphasized to improve safety.

At the same time, a new rural mobility platform called Atchoum Mobilité was launched. The service offers on‑demand transport and solidarity car‑pooling for residents of sparsely served areas, helping older people, non‑car owners and others access medical appointments, shopping and leisure activities. Bookings can be made online or by phone, and drivers receive compensation and insurance coverage.
