Veracruz launches new public transport services

The Government of Veracruz has introduced a new public transportation modernization program featuring three new services: Atenas in Xalapa, Totonaco in Poza Rica, and Papaloapan in Carlos A. Carrillo and Cosamaloapan. The initiative includes 316 modern units designed to improve mobility and connectivity to high-demand areas such as schools, hospitals, and commercial zones.

In Xalapa, the Atenas system will launch in mid-September with 60 buses operating across five routes. A key feature for students is the ‘Day Pass,’ which allows for multiple transfers throughout the day with a single payment. The routes are designed to connect various sectors, including the Universidad Veracruzana area.

The Totonaco service in Poza Rica will utilize 40 buses across three routes, while the Papaloapan service will deploy six buses. These new services join the currently operating Ulúa and Quetzalli systems as part of a broader effort to guarantee the human right to mobility through technological integration and improved route planning.
