Athens: Elderly woman assaulted near Victoria Square
An 80-year-old woman and her daughter were victims of a violent assault near Victoria Square in Athens on the evening of Friday, September 11. According to a report by journalist Christina Galanopoulou, five individuals surrounded the women at the intersection of Ellopias and Alkiviadou streets.
The elderly woman sustained significant injuries, including a broken nose and extensive bruising, after being punched in the face and dragged by a necklace during an attempted robbery. The victim lost her balance and fell onto the pavement. The daughter, who attempted to protect her mother, was also pushed by one of the attackers.
Local residents and two police officers provided immediate assistance after an ambulance from EKAB failed to arrive at the scene. The victim was eventually transported to Evangelismos Hospital via a private vehicle. While the daughter reported that suspicious individuals were apprehended nearby, the incident has left the family in a state of severe psychological shock.
