Assault on elderly woman in Athens
Overview
An 80-year-old woman and her daughter were attacked near Victoria Square in Athens on the evening of September 11. During an attempted robbery at the intersection of Ellopias and Alkiviadou streets, five individuals reportedly surrounded the women.
The elderly victim sustained a broken nose and extensive bruising after being punched and dragged by her necklace, causing her to fall onto the pavement. Her daughter was also pushed while attempting to intervene. Following a reported failure of an ambulance to arrive, the victim was transported to Evangelismos Hospital via a private vehicle. While suspicious individuals were reportedly apprehended nearby, the family remains in a state of “severe psychological shock.”
