Athens experiences heavy traffic congestion on major roads
Major traffic congestion has returned to the Athens metropolitan area as residents return from summer holidays. Significant delays are reported on several key arterial roads, most notably Kifissos Avenue and Kifissias Avenue.
On Kifissos Avenue, heavy traffic is affecting large sections, particularly from the Egaleo level to Nea Filadelfia. A three-vehicle accident near Lenorman in the Sepolia area has further exacerbated delays for drivers heading toward Lamia. Similarly, Kifissias Avenue is experiencing heavy flow between Filothei, Chalandri, and Marousi, with delays also noted toward central Athens near Neos Psychiko.
Other impacted areas include: - Attiki Odos: Delays of 15 to 20 minutes toward the airport from Metamorfosi to the Pentelis exit. - Athens Center: Heavy traffic on Vasileos Konstantinou and Vasilissas Sofias. - Mesogeion Avenue: Congestion reported near Cholargos. - Piraeus Port: Increased vehicle flow due to travelers returning from the islands. - Athens-Lamia National Road: High traffic volume at the Metamorfosi junction.
