Athens experiences heavy traffic congestion on major roads
Significant traffic congestion and delays were reported across major road arteries in the Athens metropolitan area on the morning of Friday, October 23, 2026.
The Kifisos highway experienced severe bottlenecks, particularly on the section stretching from Egaleo to Nea Filadelfeia, with vehicles moving at very low speeds. Other heavily impacted areas included Athens Avenue from Haidari to Skaramangas, Kifisias Avenue near the Alexander Avenue intersection, and Syngrou Avenue from Fix towards the city center.
On the Attiki Odos motorway, delays were noted on the route toward the airport, with travel times increasing by 20 to 25 minutes between the Dimokratias and Kifisias junctions. Additional delays were reported on the routes toward Elefsina and Lamia. Drivers were advised to allow extra travel time due to the increased load on the road network.
