Severe congestion grips Athens' Kifisos corridor

Traffic on the Kifisos road in Athens has become impassable, with major delays reported on both north‑bound and south‑bound lanes. Congestion also spreads to the Athens Avenue, Paralia, Mesogeion, Kifissias and other key arteries, with wait times ranging from five to over thirty minutes, especially between Metamorfosi‑Aigaleo and Leno‑New Philadelfia.

A fire near New Philadelfia further exacerbated the slowdown, causing additional disruptions on the Kifisos. The traffic authority warned drivers to expect prolonged queues on the Attiki Odos, particularly on the airport and Eleusina‑Lamia approaches.

Transport expert Evg Matsouki has proposed converting the Kifisos into a four‑lane Athenian‑type boulevard and accelerating upgrades of the Eleusina‑Oinofyta highway, as part of broader plans to improve the western Athens Riviera and relieve chronic traffic snarls.
