Athens' Kifissos Avenue faces severe traffic congestion

Heavy congestion persisted on major arterial roads in Athens on the morning of 10 June, with the Kifissos corridor experiencing the longest delays. Drivers were forced to travel at low speeds along Kifissos Avenue, Kifissias Avenue, and the Attica Road, especially in the inbound direction toward central Athens. Significant bottlenecks were also reported on Mesogeion Avenue, Athens Avenue, Petra Ralli, and the coastal Poseidon Avenue, as well as key city-center routes such as Basileiōs Sophias, Konstantinou, and Amalias. The traffic slowdown extended to the Perimeter Road near the Piraeus port and the approach to the airport via the Attica Road, causing additional travel delays for commuters and freight traffic.

The congestion was attributed to the usual rush‑hour surge in vehicle numbers, with multiple lanes operating at reduced capacity across the network. Authorities noted that the situation worsened as the peak hour approached, leading to prolonged travel times for motorists throughout the metropolitan area.
